UMW Basketball Teams Dedicate game to the Erin Peterson Fund for Second Year
The University of Mary Washington will be dedicating both the men's and women's basketball games on January 19th 2009 vs. Marymount College to Erin Peterson, who was one of 32 Virginia Tech students killed in April, 2007. All donations raised during that game will go to the Erin Peterson Fund. This is the second year that Mary Washington's women's and men's team have raise money for the Erin Peterson Fund.
Sub Division outside of Middleburg, VA named Erin Peterson Community
A subdivision in the village of St. Louis, VA just outside of Middleburg will be named after Erin. The houses to be built are "green", small affordable single story homes and they average approximately 1200-1300 square feet depending upon the family size of the partner families. The subdivision is a Habituate for Humanity community; scheduled to start construction sometime in 2009. Check the websites for periodic updates. Click here for more information on the project.
First Annual Erin Peterson Golf Tournament
The first Annual Erin Peterson Golf Tournament was held on April 7 at the Chantilly National Golf and Country Club in Centreville, VA. There were 141 golfers and over 60 volunteers. Eggspectation started the golfers out with a hot breakfast and a healthy box lunch was provided. There were lots of raffle and silent auction items donated from merchants, neighbors and many other supporters in the community. Former Redskin players Ken Harvey and Charles Mann were among the 141 golfers. A memorial resolution was presented to Celeste and Grafton by Delegate Chuck Caputo of the 67th District. The day ended with the presentation of prizes to the first, second and third place golfers and a wonderful buffet dinner. An estimated total of $65k was raised for the fund. The planning for next year's tournament has already begun; a date should be announced soon!
Erin Peterson's Number Retired
On December 21, 2007, Erin Peterson's Number 45 was retired at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA.
